Chrysler Shows Off 5 Mopar Custom Hot Rods

In a series of sketches released a few weeks ago, Chrysler teased what its Mopar parts and service arm could do with the automaker's full stable of vehicles. Today, Chrysler delivered more: It offered a preview of the 24 vehicles that will be on display at SEMA later this month, and Mopar?s Head of Motorsports Design, Mark Trostle, introduced five "Moparized" cars. (We'll be at SEMA, too. Look out for the PopMech Editor's Choice Awards.)

An amalgamation of commercially available Mopar accessories and bespoke modifications, these cars are designed to give consumers an idea of the customization possibilities within Chrysler's various brands. But mainly, it?s an appetizer before the carmakers unveils a Mopar take on the SRT Viper on October 30.

Fiat 500 Beach Cruiser

Trostle and his team set out to emulate the beach cruisers of the ?50s with this Fiat 500 Cabriolet, seen above. To give it a more aggressive stance, Mopar engineers widened the vehicle?s wheelbase by eight inches?a modification that makes even the performance-minded 500 Abarth look tame. Of course, it wouldn?t be a beach cruiser without some wood. The 500 sports a teak roof rack and floorboards.

Dodge Charger Juiced

Underneath that orange hood you won't find the Charger?s stock 3.6-liter V-6, nor the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. For this custom, Mopar installed SRT?s 8.4-liter, 650-hp V-10 found in the 2013 Viper, married to its six-speed manual. "Juiced" indeed.

Dodge Dart Carbon Fire

Black, carbon fiber, and more black?even the headlights are tinted on this 2013 Dodge Dart. Of the three Darts that will be on display at SEMA later this month (hints of a "racing" version has our interest piqued), Trostle referred to this one?s color as "the more technical of the bunch," promising more bright and "expressive" hues later. If anything, this car proves that it?s pretty much impossible for a car to have too much black.

Chrysler 300 Luxury

The Chrysler 300 is the business suit of this bunch. The Luxury version's lowered stance, dark navy paint job, and polished aluminum accents give the impression that it probably attends board meetings and has a corner office that overlooks Central Park.

Urban Ram

With an upgraded 400-hp SRT engine and blue go-faster stripes, this Ram looks more at home on the track than it does at a lumber mill.
